So, less than two weeks until "Sapphire Night" will be available at The Wild Rose Press, which seems like a good time to announce the chance to win a copy of it.
To be eligible to win, share a memory and/or description in the comments of a piece of jewelry that is/was significant for you. It can be something of your own, or something you remember someone else wearing. You're also welcome to leave more than one comment if you can't decide between the memories/significant items! :-)
I'll draw a random winner on June 26th (after 9pm Pacific time).
Ready, set, go...

I won a lovely sodalite wrapped in copper swirls pendant in this year's Brenda Novak auction which supports research on juvenile diabetes. It's special for that - plus the healing powers of sodalite. And I think it's gorgeous! Not sure if you can see it since the auctions are closed, but I'll try to put the link here: brendanovak dot auctionanything dot com it was item 1357645, called dripping bloom. The auction is every year in May, so give your support next year!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother died when I was 9 years old. I was "Grandma's little princess" and loved spending time at her rambling old farmhouse. I spent hours in front of two curio cabinets that were packed with all manner of little goodies. When she died, an aunt who lived locally cleared out her house and I didn't get even one inexpensive trinket from my Grandma's house. When my Grandpa died a few years later, I got my Grandma's watch which was in his things. It's the only thing I have of hers and it's a very precious item, and piece of jewelry, to me.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I met on a blind date set up by a friend who thought we'd get along. He came home to SA from the US via New Zealand. Before he even met me, knowing he would be meeting me, he bought me a jade pendant, carved into a twist: the Maori symbol for eternal friendship (I might have that slightly wrong. If you use this in a story, look it up first!) as a gift for me. Well, short version: we're married now, friends for ever.

What woman doesn't like jewelry! And, on top of that MOST women's favorite is a diamond -- or diamonds! I am no different, but I also happen to like mine in a certain type of setting - big and solitaire. I know a lot of women who like the clusters, and clusters are fine, except not my favorite. There is a young man who is the cashier at my local grocery store, he has a one-carat diamond post in each ear....talk about jealous! I commented to him that I loved his earrings -- they are single one-carat solitaires -- can you imagine, 19-years-old and a carat diamond in each ear! I turned to look at my husband and he said, "Baby, if I had the money, I'd get some for you." I ask, how can you be mad, especially when you are the one balancing the checkbook and know he isn't lying!
ReplyDeleteI love my wedding band ring guard. A few years ago, we upgraded to a larger diamond and had to get a new band as well because the old one wouldn't fit with the larger stone. I chose a guard with four stones, and I made them a sapphire (for dh), peridot (me), an amethyst (son no. 1) and aquamarine (son no. 2). Now my whole family is represented on this beautiful ring that I wear every day ;).

I'm not posting to win this ebook. In fact I think I might have something Kaia and her readers will like. We have a review on our site for her first book with The Wilder Roses, Sapphire Night. Please stop by and take a look and good luck on the 26th Kaia.

Hmm, looks like Blogger ate my replies to your comments.
ReplyDeleteI have some RL things to catch up with, but I'll be back in the next day or two to "recomment". Thanks everyone for stopping by to participate!
I was handed down a gold book-shaped locket that my grandfather gave to my grandmother as a present for their wedding day. It's a beautiful token of their love and affection and I'm so happy to wear it in memory of them (however, now only for special occasions since I have two toddlers who like to yank anything pretty and shiny off my neck and ears!) :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Amy
ReplyDeleteThose both sound like lovely pieces! I tried taking a look at the auction picture, but it didn't show up. I'll just have to imagine...
When you mentioned your grandmother's curio cabinet, it gave me a total flashback to both of my grandmothers, and the curio cabinets they each had. I wonder if, when you become a grandmother, you suddenly find a curio cabinet in your living room? :-) Anyway, I also remember spending hours staring through the glass at the fascinating collection of things, and on _very_ special occasions getting to hold some of them. A good memory, thanks for jogging it.
Hi Tracy
ReplyDeleteI love that story--and what a romantic gesture. Your hubby sounds like a special guy, I'm glad things worked out for the two of you :-)
krazideb, I'm with you on the diamonds! I have one set into a ring that came from my husband's side of the family, and I look at and enjoy it pretty much every day. Those solitaire earrings sound really striking!
ReplyDeleteHelen, your ring sounds beautiful--and I love how it has that connection to your loved ones. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMistress Bella, thank you most kindly for such a lovely review--you made my day! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Tricia
ReplyDeleteA book shaped locket, I love that! It sounds like love of the written word runs in your family :-) Speaking of which, congratulations on your contract with TWRP. Good luck with getting the edits done, in between writing new stuff--oh yes, and life with two young kids!
